Science and Environmental Education at Sunnyside

SEEdS is Science and Environmental Education at Sunnyside.

SEEdS’ Program Goals:

          • Academic/STEAM Enrichment

          • Promote Healthy Eating

          • Instill Environmental Stewardship

          • Build Community and Positive Relationships

California Native Plant Garden

4th grade students participated in a design workshop to envision a new garden in the front of Sunnyside Elementary. Inspired by their drawings, students researched and planted California Native Plants.

Harvest, Nutrition Lessons & Kitchen Carts

Fruits don’t grow so well for us at Sunnyside; but we get an abundance of leafy greens and root vegetables. Students harvest from the garden and prepare simple dishes. We are fortunate to have parent volunteers to build things for us, including one of a kind Kitchen Carts.

Rain Water System with Tap the Sky

SEEdS partnered with Kat Sawyer, from Tap the Sky, to build a rain water catchment system at Sunnyside. With community help, we installed the system for use during the 2016 – 2017 school year. Students will be excited to harvest water using a powerful hand pump.
